No Bristol Type 142, what does the RAF do?

I don’t think omitting the Beln
I’m not sure on the Beaufort. When you look at the RAF Specdicarions, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Air_Ministry_specifications#1930–1939 the Beaufort’s is before the Blenheim. However, Wikipedia does say the Beaufort was designed after the Blenheim. Presumably if there’s no Blenheim, Bristol would have still made something for the Beaufort.

When you look at the list of RAF Specifications, you see many aircraft that can replace the Blenheim.

As I understand it, the Beaufort and Beaufighter used several jigs and tools created for the Blenheim, particularly for the wings, tail, and engine mounts and cowlings. If the 142 is stillborn, then the Beaufort and ensuing Beaufighters probably are clean-sheet designs.

If no Beaufort, i'd like to see the larger Wellington take on the torpedo role.

Wellington 1Cs in December '41 of No 38 Squadron were converted for torpedo and mine laying work and some attacked Axis shipping from Malta. Later there was a purpose built variant Mk VIII - with retractable leigh-lights and nose turret deleted. (ref Owen Thetford).

I like it. And with a range of over 4,000 km, the Wellingtons can be flown out to Singapore.

It could be built for the GR role instead of the Botha as well.

The T.B.G.R. Wellington could be in service with Coastal Command by the end of 1938, a full year before the Beaufort and Both IOTL. That would have been enough time to replace the Anson and Vildebeest in Coastal Command by September 1939 - PLUS the T.B.G.R. squadrons for the overseas commands in Schemes F, L and M, which weren't formed due to delays in the Beaufort and Botha.

That could be done by setting up the Vickers factories at Blackpool and Chester in 1936 or having Bristol and Blackburn build them - though it would make sense for the factory that Blackburn and Denny built in Dumbarton to build Bothas IOTL be a Vickers-Denny venture ITTL.

If the planners of the TTL Scheme F decide to buy more Hampdens and Wellingtons to fill the gap left by the Blenheim in the RAF's medium bomber squadrons it would be a good idea to bring English Electric into the Shadow Factory Scheme in November 1936 instead of November 1938.
