In OTL Lenin arranged a succesful coup, siezed power and then won the civil war in Russia despite interventions from other nations.

I believe that the Soviet Union kept its economy rather separate from the rest of the World.

Would the Depression have been worse, the same or less serious had Russia been more a part of the World economy.

I am guessing the Russian food procutions would be higher without collectivisation although I assume that Russian industry would not have grown as much.



There is also a political question. Many people did not realize how brutal Stalin was, or indeed Lenin. For some, way beyond the CP, the USSR was a proof that there was an alterntive. For others it was something to fear.

Take into account the 'the reds' in the sense of some kind of radical revolution had been a fear of establisment people way before 1917.
