No Bees for Napoleon

The bees were the symbol that were used as the emblem of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French.
Suppose the bee had not been chosen as the Emperor's emblem.
What other symbol shall be the emblem for Imperial Napoleon?

This is the traditional coat of arms of the Buonaparte family in Corsica. So perhaps the six-pointed star?

Napoléon was presented with several options:
Rooster
Leopard
Elephant
He settled on the bees because he wanted a symbol that conferred legitimacy but was pre-Capetian. The bees were found in the tomb of a Merovingian king and were presumed to be HIS symbol (they were actually his wife's).

In the spring of 1804, Napoleon created the Council Commission, made up of several members of his Council of State, and chaired by Emmanuel Cretet.
It was the responsibility of this commission to plan everything to do with the coronation of the Emperor and Empress, which was scheduled for December of 1804.
After considerable discussion and consultation with several noted scholars, the majority of the commissioners suggested that the bee should become the personal emblem of Napoleon.
