So pretty much accepting that it won't be a bomber base? It sounds like you're advocating it being an outpost useful for some support missions, otherwise going little more than soaking up bombs. .... snip...

I think people expect that if Crete is secure Polesti will get pummelled from May 1941.

I on the other hand see the scope for 201 Naval Cooperation Group or 202, 204 and 205 bomber groups to work from Crete as well as Africa on theatre tasks. Sure 205 Group had Wellingtons but they'd be employed on 'Theatre Strategic' tasks such as bombing Greek ports or mining the Corinthian Canal etc rather than on 'Combined Bomber Offensive' tasks.

Yeah that seems to be the best use of it unless Churchill goes nuts and pushes in a lot of resources to make it an invasion/bomber base, which he could well do, which IMHO would likely be a waste and beset with major problems if attempted.
