No 3 fifths? Less Southern influence? No ACW

In otl the South got extra votes because of the slaves who had no rights and this strengthened the power of the Slavocrats/.

If the Constitution is still ratified might that weaken the influcence of the planter class.

Given that might the fire eaters have less influence. So the idea of Secession be be seen as crazy as it was

Any thoughts?

Without this convention, there's a strong chance that the South never joins the US in the first place.

The Southern planters are not going to happy about diluting their power so much - the North would be much more powerful, and they were concerned that they would use this power to force through the abolition of slavery.

Even if they weren't willing to accept that black people were full human beings, they were more than happy to count them in terms of allocating seats for the House.

The absolute best you could get, whilst still keeping the South in the Union, is a lower ratio than 3/5 (0.6) - maybe 11/20 (0.55) or even 1/2 (0.5).

yes, I'd think it would only work if the white population of the south was roughly equal to that of the north. That's a pretty tough POD to get to...
