No 2nd Balkan War

I am assuming that Bulgaria DID take part as OTL, but after the first war, that ATL the victors did not quarrel over the spoils.

If the Bulgarians got past Chataldja (OK, Çatalca), the next step would likely be street fighting in Constantinople, and that WOULD likely get the Powers involved. I read somewhere that at the Allied occupation of Constantinople, the population was less than half Muslim, the rest being Slavs and Greeks and Western Europeans etc.

As I understand, cholera was one part of the problem. The Bulgarian forces were tired and logistically overstretched - relying on a long, slow and rickety supply system over awful roads which made sure that they would be poorly supplied and that the cholera epidemic would cause even more damage. Also, the Ottomans had better artillery.

In spite of all that, the Bulgarians did get close to a breakthrough at Chataldja. With a bit more luck, it could have happened.

Capturing Constantinople would give Bulgaria a considerable prestige boost. But few (if any) of the Great Powers would be willing to let them annex it.

After that, it depends on how the Great Powers act and how their actions are perceived in Bulgaria. If WWI breaks out more or less as in OTL, Bulgaria will be neutral but pro-Entente, intimidating the crippled Ottoman Empire so it doesn't join the Central Powers. If the Ottomans do join the CP anyway, that may push Bulgaria to openly joining the other side.

During the final stages of the First Balkan War the only two European Ottoman territories left unoccupied by the Balkan League were the Gelibolu peninsula and easternmost Thrace (east of Catalca). When the Catlalca defence was formed, the Russians actually threatened the Balkan League (Bulgaria in particular) with war if the straits were to be threatened. Any (semi -ASB) breakthrough of Constantinople's last defence would lead to an intervention by the Great Powers.

Bulgarian interest were mostly focused on Macedonia (where most ethnic Bulgarians in the Ottoman empire lived, but were unable to become part of Bulgaria after the Berlin Congress) but the Balkan League logistics required their army (as the strongest of the Balkan nations) to engage the bulk of the Ottoman defence south of former East Rumelia in Eastern Thrace. Hence the reason almost no Bulgarian forces were sent into Macedonia and these regions were left in Serbian and Greek hands.

Cooperation beteween the Balkan allies was low and despite the victory, the Bulgarians were left with only a small chunk of their desired Macedonia, (Pirin and Strumica) the rest going to Serbia and Greece. One of the few pre-war agreements was the division of Vardar Macedonia between Serbia and Bulgaria along the Ohrid - Kratovo line. As we all, know the Serbs recieved an ultimatum from Austria and Italy (both feeling threatened by a potential Adriatic coast of the Russian backed Serbians) to pull out of Albania. And thus Serbia, left only with Kosovo and half of Novi Pazar refused to honour this agreement and annexed lands further south-east of the proposed line.
Even though Bulgaria gained all of Thrace, a large chunk these lands (even to this day) are populated mainly by Turks. An enlarged, exhausted, post-war Bulgaria with a significant Turk minority is bound to cause ethhnic tension.

If OP is trying to avoid the Second Balkan War for the sake of Bulgaria's prosperity post-war, then this could be achieved more plausibly another way. Maybe have Serbia or Greece being left unsatisfied by their spoils. Maybe with promises of war indemnities and maybe even South Dobrudja we can have Romania join the Balkan League (even though this would definetly attract the Great Powers' attention as this alliance would be getting too influential). This way Bulgaria would be able to spare more forces for Macedonia and gain Salonika and Ohrid. Then have Serbia or Greece feeling betrayed and thus attacking their allies, then getting ganged up on ... . On the other hand if OP wants to avoid the Second Balkan War as a whole, maybe the most plausible scenario would be to improve cooperation between the Balkan Alliance participants pre-war, but even if war is avoided it is (nearly) impossible to satisfy everybody.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_Wars says that OTL in the Second Balkan War Turkey took advantage of Bulgaria being busy elsewhere to take back land in eastern Thrace, and while doing that, Turkish forces massacred all the ethnic Bulgarians that they could find there.

I read that some Bulgarian forces in the first war were sent south across Macedonia to Dedeagatch (now Alexandroupolis) to cut the railway from Constantinople to Thessaloniki/Salonica.

If Turkey had been kicked right out of Europe (perhaps with e.g. Britain occupying the Straits west coast), that might have avoided risk and trouble later.

https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/restored-byzantium.342623/ That long thread (now closed) is related :: in it Greece won the 1920-1922 Greek-Turkish war.

The only thing the OTL Balkan League powers could agree on among themselves was the fact that they wanted to go to war against Ottomans when they did, since at the time they had the opportunity and numbers to do it. Assuming that Russian diplomacy does a bit better job in predetermining the division of the spoils of war at Macedonia, while still failing to prevent the League from going to war could work. It is however unlikely, considering that the inept Russian diplomacy was one of the key factors in allowing the war to begin in the first place.
