No 22nd Amendment, effect of VP

In OTL The 22nd Amendment was passed. It made it absolutely certain that a Presidetn could could only be re-elected once.

Since then it has been unusual for a VP not to at least run for election as President

I wonder if that had no been in place might Nixon have decided he would do better to stay a Senator.

Might the VP office have only had significance if a President died or something.

Well, OTL VPs ran in 1960, 1968, 1988, and 2000, not counting 1984 when a former VP was the nominee.

1952-60 -- I think even w/o the 22nd, Nixon would know that Ike's not running in eight years (age if nothing else)

1964-8 -- LBJ was on the older side in 1964, so I don't see HHH passing up the VP position

1980-8 -- same deal for GHWB

1992-2000 -- Now we get to a real possibility here -- would Gore have been Bill's running mate if he could hypothetically go past 2000?
