No 22nd amendment does Clinton run?

Let's say the precedes as it did OTL Ike's a veto anotherterm and Nancy doesn"t allow her husband to run. Despite the scandal remained popular and the economy was good. Would 2000 have been Hillary's turn? if he did run who would have won the Clinton vs Gore vs Bradley primary battle.

Gore wouldn't go against Clinton in the primaries if Clinton ran for a third term, and Bradley probably wouldn't either; beating the incumbent President in a primary is impossible unless his popularity is near-zero beforehand.

There'd be no opposition in the primary and I suspect a third term, even if by a reduced majority.

The only question I'd have is whether Clinton would WANT a third term. He might be totally exhausted at that point. Anyone would be. If he had the desire for it, then yes, he would win.

I find it hard to believe that at the very least the IDEA of a president running for a third term doesn't butterfly away certain people and candidates. Politics is a gambler's business, you can know everything about it and then you only have an educated guess as to who comes out on top. People who became the most successful movers and shakers OTL would've lost hugely gambling on speculative third-term runs on the part of certain presidents and such, I just don't think something that changes the game as much as this could realistically lead to Clinton running in the exact same campaign as he did OTL.

Clinton would probably want to run, but it's 50/50 as to whether he would, mainly because I could easily see his not running for a third term being major concession after the Lewinsky scandal.

His job approval numbers where decent

BUT...

1. He was tired, overworked and sick (don't forget he required major heart surgery shortly after he left office)... signing up for another 4 years of consecutive mega stress might be beyond him

2. He wasn't going to run against a dud like Bob Dole... George W Bush was much younger, more personable and could attract independents

3. The Lewinsky stuff and various other transgressions where going to be uncomfortable to go through in a general campaign

4. There wasn't going to be Ross Perot for a 3rd time to siphon votes away from his republican challenger

5. The republicans where still going to be in control of congress... so there was a limit to how much more agenda he could possibly pass

He'd probably still be President if not for Term Limits. Reagan would retire in '92 do to health reasons, and Clinton would just sweep in and stay in. He'd probably take the Kennedy Retirement Plan, that is to say he would retire feet first (since Kennedys have the habit of dying in office).

He might drop dead pretty quickly after the start of a 3rd term

He had Hitler like sleeping and eating habits and he worked too much... he needed quadrouple bypass after he got out office... he wasn't well

Reagan was simply too old by the end of his term, and starting to show the first signs of Alzheimer. Clinton would be the first President in a 'no 22nd amendment'-world that was actually well positioned to run for a third term, which I'm sure he does, and likely wins handily.

Also, discussions regarding how Clinton looked always remind me of the Stewart-bit on the same issue for George W. Bush. "This just in; time ages you!"

being president ages you more than time in and of itself

W was a fitness fanatic... he kept a regular sleeping schedule, took long sustained vacations to keep his stress levels balanced etc

W looks a hundred times better now than he did in 2008... because removed from the stress of the job his regular healthy lifestyle and reduced travel schedule have taken hold

W 2008 the stress has really taken a lot out of him by this point

W on Oprah promoting his book... you can see the mega aging slowed down/stopped

Clinton was in a lot worse health than W... keeping him in the WH after 2000 is probably a death sentence

I would say no. Bill Clinton's health will be worsen by the middle of 3rd term and he will retire in 2005. This event will butterfly away Barack Obama's presidency. Also, it will kept Hilary from pursuing elected position.
