George McGovern still loses in 1972, Richard Nixon won by a landslide. I think a better question is "Nixon-Connally 1968". Connally might help Nixon in the South in ATL 1968. Ronald Regan would have a harder time against John Connally, because in his defense, he would have technically been elected as President in 1972, except as a running mate. IOTL 1976, Reagan beat Gerald Ford in most of the South, which probably turns out differently in ATL. Connally might have some difficulties with formerly being a Democrat, but so was Reagan.
