NFL What If: Brett Favre Gets His Second Superbowl

I was wondering, what would happen if, in the 2008 NFC championship game, the Packers beat the Giants in overtime, and, improbably, go on to beat the New England Patriots in the superbowl. Specifically, what do you think it would do to Brett Favre and his legacy-if he stays retired, he just ended his career with a superbowl victory, in his 17th year in the league. I can see that having massive effects on his legacy, as compared to him finishing his last 2 years in Minnesota with the last year being a complete disaster for him.

I would prefer his Second being with Vikings, so close yet so far and rodgers can get his own next year, that would make things interesting, regardless even if they become the 1 in 18-1, Favre will be fine just poorer with the extra cash of his final years

I'm not sure Favre would retire even after winning a Super Bowl. At that point, the one thing he wanted to do was keep his consecutive game streak going, winning was a convenient justification. We saw that with the Jets tank in the 2008 season; he was clearly injured and probably cost them a playoff spot. But Favre is still gonna "ponder" retirement if he wins Super Bowl XLII, the Packers still decide that Rodgers is ready to take the reins, and the Packers aren't willing to take him back when he inevitably decides he can still play.

The issue here is that there's a big difference between "aging QB that cost his team a Super Bowl appearance by throwing a game-ending pick in the NFC Championship game" and "Aging QB that went 13-3 and just won a Super Bowl against maybe the greatest team of all time". A lot more teams would be willing to rent-a-Favre when he just won a second ring. He might still go to the Jets, but with a lot more teams interested, he might go elsewhere. His final legacy is still dependant on where he goes in 2008 and beyond.

To make this happen, the Packers are the ones who would have to trade for Moss, not the Patriots. If that happened, you may have seen the Packers play the Colts or SD in the Super Bowl (I don't see NE going undefeated without Moss).

You don't think the Packers can win the Super Bowl unless they have Randy Moss? When they were literally an interception away from beating the eventual Super Bowl champion?

I just don't know if they could have put the pressure on Tom Brady that the Giants did (even though their secondary was better than NY's). That would have been the key.

The Packers defense wasn't that bad that year. Aaron Kampman was a Pro Bowler on the defensive line and KGB, Cullen Jenkins, and Ryan Pickett were above-average players, even if the Giants line got more sacks. The Packers were a better team than the Giants, and while the Giants defense might be more suited to beating Brady, the Packers had a much better offense and still had a solid front seven and possibly the best secondary in the league at the time. It's completely reasonable to assume that the Packers could have beaten the Patriots

That is something i forgot, and maybe he would still play to get that till his number, a shame his sprink ankle, he should have broken the 300 starts...maybe he still can do it as his final season if won the game in 09 or 10(even counting 08 with the jets)
