new UCS discussion

I would like to remind you guys that the UCS is/was supposed to be a key for easy identification-- too many colors spoil the purpose, to butcher an old saying. If you give colors to every country of every variant, hell, how are people supposed to know what's what?

I think we're just making a new color scheme for the hell of it, not to actually be useful in any way, shape, or form.

okay, here's a partly complete version of the color scheme thus far

Nice! the communist colour could go to the main communist nation and the Comm Chinese colour could go to the second one. Plus I challenge anybody to make a map with the MCS! (Massive Colour Scheme)

yeah, i was planning to make something for different ideologies. the generic socialist color would be a mix of pre-existing communist colors while bright red is reserved and designated for more radical ideologies, specifically citing soviet communism. bright red wont even be included in the section for russia and other slavs

ive also got an alternative color scheme for the confederates in particular. it occurred to me that the unified germany and CSA colors are pretty similar (though, granted, the unified german color here is legit feldgrau rather than just gray) so i made these alternatives based on TL-191, going for a butternut color like the new CSA uniforms that were introduced in Great War

by default, CSA will keep its dark gray colors, but i think this is a good alternative, though it may need some changes to be a bit more distinct. i was also thinking that UCS german gray would be a good color under "Ideology" for a technocratic country

EDIT: now that i think about it, maybe a caramel color would be good to specifically designate the CSA...what do you all think?

ive edited the CSA colors so that standard CS is khaki and their territories are caramel, to kinda match up with the US having lighter states and darker territories. i want to get more colors in before reposting it, though. any suggestions for some of the blank colors? i was thinking a 50-50 overlay or dutch orange and belgian purple could work for "other dutch successor states"

For Dutch successor states like an "United States of New Netherland" or whatever you could try this...

I asked this about the RCS, and I'll ask here; why are there ten colors for the British islands, plus six colors for British colonial successors (thirteen if you count the American colors), but France has two and a colonial successor color? So many different colors for what is essentially one state simply under different regimes is... confusing to say the least :p

because france doesnt have as many different colonial successors. colonial successors indicate that the successor is still mostly french as opposed to one that used to be ruled by france; ivory coast may SPEAK french, buts its not CULTURALLY french

Because Britain historically needs that many colours, and France doesn't. That simple.

While I'm against the '_CS Wars' in general, I agree we should have a more ATL-oriented version of the (over-complex, but useful) TRCS.
I suggested something similar to this some time ago (https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=188327), in which I cut some colours and gave more ATL meanings to many of them.

Any colour scheme larger than the TRCS will be impossible to use, but if we focus more in what we need to represent more comonly in ATLs(Texas, Toulouse, Celtic Union) rather than OTL, this CS can work well and be as useful (or more!) as the TRCS.

The 'ligther colour implies colonial/sucessor state' idea is VERY useful and avoids confusion, also.
