New Timeline Ideas

Since my Al Smith timeline proved to get a little too boring (I'm still planning on doing a wrap up post) I'm interested in what you guys think about what I should or could do for my next major project. Here are some parameters:
-Ideal time period: 1960-Present
-Ideal Country: USA (I know a fair amount about Canadian, French, and British politics but not enough to make a timeline about them)
-Ideal POD: Something surrounding an election. It could be national, or even local.

Thanks guys! I love writing here and I love the feedback. I just didn't love old Al Smith quite enough.

Some ideas...

The Palm Beach suicide bomber doesn't have a guilty conscience and LBJ becomes President in 1961 instead of JFK.

Reagan beats Ford in '76.

Ross Perot does not run in 1992.

Hillary runs in 2004.

"The new president of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson, had just rounded the corner, and Blaine had the gun pointed directly at the man's chest. In the blackness of the night, Johnson's face went completely white.

A split second later, Blaine would have pulled the trigger ...

Blaine struggled to regain his composure as the reality of what had just happened washed over him. Fourteen hours after losing a president, the nation had come chillingly close to losing another one."

The neat thing about U.S. elections and politics, even state and local contests, is that so many have the potential to change so much. Remember, hanks to Barack Obama's success, any state legislator is potentially five years away from the presidency.
