New Spain and New Portugal

Could North America be a region of a single or multiple Spanish speaking nations, and South America one of Portuguese speakers, if you start when the Pope divided the New World? Or was England sure to get into the mix?

I'm afraid that neither Portugal nor Spain were strong enough to completely dominate the America's and spread their attention in multiple points elsewhere), so you would have England and other powers setting up colonies there, unless Portugal and Spain focused solely in the Americas (and even in that scenario, it's a bit iffy).

Easy a America dominated by Portugal and Spain was part of my TL. A successful Spanish Armada will instill a Catholic monarch, Henry Percy with Isabella Clara Eugenia as his wife. This caused England to not launch expeditions to the west and the idea of Spanish Naval invincibility to remain place causing other nations not to colonize.
