New Netherlands What If

I don't know if this has been done before but,

Is it possible that the in the Treaty of Breda after the second Anglo-Dutch War that the Dutch and British didn't trade the British colonies in the Guianas for New Netherlands and what would've happend?

It is possible, mostly if the Dutch already control either all of, or part of, Brazil. They would not need Guiana land. In An Alternate History of the Netherlands, I postulated that New Amsterdam would grow closer to the British colonies economically. Whether or not there would be a United States is another matter, but if there was one, then I'd say there was a good chance that New Amsterdam might opt to join the Union.

You know, it's hard to see it not being bought by the British at some point. It's there in the middle of the colonies, the population is plurality British... but on the other hand, the Dutch were British allies, and to be honest New York was a backwater until the latter half of the 18th century. So. Hrm. My guess is it gets traded at some alternate Peace Treaty.

I agree unless the Dutch decide to use it as a base to build up their own fur trade or even use it as a jumping point to attack the British colonies in the Third Anglo-Dutch War or the Franco-Duth War.

Or you could have an alternate timeline where instead of the Dutch keeping New Netherland in the Treaty of Breda, they keep New Netherland in the Treaty of Westminster in 1674.
