I've recently been re-reading Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' series in advance of the HBO series and one of the things I noticed this time that had passed me by first time around is that there's a country on the North American continent (implied to be more or less the states east of the Mississippi and north of Mason-Dixon but it's a bit vague) called New Denmark.
Obviously working out a TL for that world would be a whole different kettle of fish (and probably belong on a different forum) but I wonder whether anyone could come up with a (vaguely) plausible series of events which resulted in Danish colonists controlling that kind of area?
