Neutral Italy

Not to mention Turkey is larger and doesn't suffer from half the country consisting of separatist nationalities liable to welcome the Germans.

Then there's the question of supplying this invasion over a certain water obstacle...not to mention Turkish equipment undergoing improvement when the British realize the opportunity.

This is true.

i've argued in other threads along this subject line that if the germans could committ the airpower they used in africa in 1941 along with rommel's ground forces and replacement stream, that they could capture leningrad in 1941

Well, British have a significant naval presence in the Mediterranean. And Germany doesn't have sea access until Yugoslavia is taken over, and sending any ships there would involve running a gauntlet of many British naval bases such as Gibraltar and Malta while being unable to produce a significant amount of ships in the conquered Yugoslav areas. Not to mention that the Italian navy would not offer any support if they were neutral which would throw out any slim chance the Germans ever had.

Yeh, sounds like the Germans would have alot of trouble invading Turkey. Even ignoring that if would be a hard slog fighting when they are actually in Anatolia.

The Afrika Korps are screwed for sure, though maybe an invasion of Turkey to get to the Suez and Baku oilfields (you know Hitler will want both at the same time) would be in order.

There would be no Afrika Korps at all. The Afrika Korps was only sent to prop up Italy's army in Africa because the British were beating it. Neutral Italy means Germany does nothing in the Mediterranean.

There will be no invasion of Turkey.

No NAfrica Campaign. No ANZUS, or Indian Troops in Africa, More Anzus/Indian Troops available for Pacific War.

ANZUS is a post WW2 defence agreement between Australia, New Zealand and the US.

Anzac is a reference to Australian and New Zealand forces and is really only valid for the First World War where they were organised into a common Corps. This didn’t happen in WW2 where they operated separately.

The Australian Imperial Forces (A.I.F.) divisions were on their way to France in 1940 when France fell and Italy entered the war, resulting in the A.I.F. divisions being diverted to the Mediterranean. If Italy doesn’t enter the war they would have continued on to England to be used in the defence of the British Isles and then in any amphibious attack on Northern and North West Europe. Britain has to do something; if they are not fighting in North Africa they have to find some other way of fighting Germany.
