Nero drinks Britannicus's cup by mistake Feb. 12, 55 C.E.

As the tin says. A mix up in the wine results in Nero inbibing the cup spiked with Water Hemlock and dying instead of Britannicus.

All hail the new Roman Emperor and his puppet master Agrippina.

I Seriously doubt that Agrippina would be Britannicus puppet master. The two hated each other to death, she was the reason why he was overlooked for the throne. She allowed him to be abused. She killed his father. I think one of the first things that Britannicus would do would be find a way to kill her.

So in Short: Britannicus fucking hated the guts of Agrippina.

I'm not sure... We must remember he was an epylettic after all, and Agrippina was however amiable with him in order to replace Nero with him if the son contrastated too much her power...

What?!

Though I think you are on the right track. After all, was it common knowledge at the time that Agripinna had Claudius poisoned?

Though if Britannicus could gain the allegiance of Vespessian, who was already the hated rival of Agripinna, he might have a shot of deposing her in a coup before she inevitably gets around to having him poisoned like his father. Britannicus would have the advantage here, as a woman could not, alone reign over the Western Empire without some kind of figurehead.

The Claudian dynasty gets a chance to sputter on for at least one more emperor. Could generate some interesting butterflies.

Indeed Agrippina wanted to control Nero more as possible; when she understood the son wanted to relegate her away, she will try to let become Britannicus Emperor, but the young died before she archieved her plan...

Britannicus was friend of Titus, so Vespasian could have all the interest to help ( or control ) him, also against Agrippina...

... Anyway, maybe i'll be influenced by the lecture of "Murena" about those events. :D

I thought you were making some reference to the sexual relationship between the two of them...I am aware that Agrippina was a strong influence on Nero, and was willing to do ANYTHING to maintain that influence, which led to some frightening results IOTL.

I knew that Vespasian has the enmity of Agrippina, the friendship between Britannicus and Titus is news to me, but it could make their alliance even more natural. Perhaps Vespasian becomes the "strongman" of the Empire while Britannicus remains the nominal ruler, kind of like the relationship between Stilicho and Honorius.

Short term yes, she would. Till Britannicus arranges her removal. Perhaps a better devised "accident," or third party thugs paid by an outside third party.

One thing is for sure, Roman couch ends can be a life saver from rigged lead canopies, which is why Nero's trap failed.
