Need help to avoid a wank

I am writing piece on the Quebec Act not being passed and thus Quebec joins America in the ARW. I need help on how to not make this a generic Ameriwank. Can someone help me? The story will take place after the ARW.

IMO, just avoid the *US (it'll be different enough to deserve the asterisk) expanding completely across the continent. A US that has the entire Eastern Seaboard would be roughly equivalent to OTL US.

I was thinking of having Empire of Mexico under Iturbide get all of present day Mexico as well as the Louisiana Purchase, have US stop at Mississippi minus the state of Louisiana, have the California belong to a California Republic, and UK pouring massive amounts of money and settlers into Oregon and British Columbia to get a foothold in North America. Think this would be not wankish? And is having the *US stop at the Mississippi still too powerful?

Maybe a Mexican california and southwest, but i doubt the US could be kept on their side of the Mississippi. British Oregon would be interesting... Maybe colonising Oregon distracts them from New Zealand and Australia, prompting another colonial power to try and gain land there?

How about a War with Spain over going West which they lose because Britain joins them eager for a chance to knock the Americans down a peg. The Americans lose but not enough to get any territorial changes but enough to stop them from going west. Mexico becomes independent with American help and gets all the Southwest and California? I understand California became Anglocized because of America after Mexican War

The solution could be a British colony in the south (with border at the North Carolina border), a independent Quebec, which includes Ontario (without the loyalist swarming there, it likely become French), what create a potential strong USA but a lot weaker than in OTL, beside that without the South the Lousiana purchase become unlikely, and it likely stay French or Spanish (at least until the Mexican revolution, where it can become a independent French state).

Result a middle power Quebec in the north, a strong "Canada" in the south and a strong independent Louisiana in the West. USA will likely focus more on their internal industries and the centre of USA will likely be Ohio/Pennsylvania/New York

The POD is the Quebec Act of 1774 so I doubt there will be a southern Canada. I have USA having everything east of the Mississippi. Is that wankish as they lose a war to UK preventing them from ever expanding west..

Not really that difficult...

1) Rebel Quebec collapses the British war effort far earlier

2) France does not spent as much money in the war as she doesn't need to send as much ships and men to help the Americans (though supplies and recognition would still be there)

3) France does not go bankrupt as a result

4) No French Revolution

5) No Napoleonic Wars

6) No invasion of Spain.

7) For some reason the USA is stupid enough to declare war on the second biggest state on Earth who happens to own 2/3rds of the American continent. The drawn of the Mississippi frontier and who gets Florida when the British pull out could be perfect catalysts.

8) The TL is realistic for a change and the USA gets pwned. The frontiers return to status quo ante, but the psychological impact in the American mindset is enough to keep the USA advancing west even if there is a later crack of the Spanish Empire and they just have to deal with Mega-Mexico.

I was going to say that the US got Louisiana and Florida before Mexican independence and Iturbide.
when I saw this

If the war ends before Spain enters in 1780, then the US includes Florida at the Treaty of Paris.

However , I doubt if Quebec would join the US in 1789 [See my Republic of Quebec Thread]
Then postpone the US taking of Louisiana for a couple of years,
US takes Texas [Rio Nuces not Rio Grande] and Louisiana both from Spain, in the 1810's during the Mexican Revolution.

As for a more powerful Mexico to counter the US in the West.
The Mexicans planned to launch there rebellion on Octobre 2nd 1810, they were discovered and had to launch it early. http://www.inside-mexico.com/featureindep.htm.
Have it not discovered, go on time, with US support [see above paragraph].
You then get José María Morelos y Pavon [http://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/mexicanrev.htm ] [third down] As the First President of Mexico.

The US reachs to the Continental Divide, with A strong Quebec to the North. and a powerful Mexico, and British Columbia to the west.

I have a POD of 1763/64 for my TL. There is no Quebec Act as per OTL, but Ontario and the 3 Maritime provences do join the Continental Congress and become provinces in the Kingdom of Albion. Quebec does not participate in the continental Congress or become part of Albion. In this TL, the US was composed of several Central America nations during the 1820's & 30's.

Regarding your proposed TL, I doubt that simply nmot having the Quebec Act passed would result in Quebec joining the revolution with the 13 Atlantic coast colonies. After the dust of the revolutionary War settles, presuming the revolution is successful, there may be a Quebecois Revolution in the 1780's or 90's against Great Britain. That would make for an interesting story. Not sure that the British would let them have Rupert's Land in the 1870's, as that would sit as well w/them as seeing the US have it; but who knows.

Perhaps i'll start another threat on this thought, but I wonder how successful a claim the US, after a successful revolution, could make on present day SE Ontario if there were no Quebec Act?
