Nearly impossible independent County of Veldenz

This is something me and my friend have been debating for quite some time. He believes that the Holy Roman Empire was such a unstable union that any matter of things could have happened in its history. Including minor independent counties such as Veldenz becoming independent. I'd like to believe its possible but I have my doubts. Any way you guys would think to go about this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_of_Veldenz

How long does it have to last, up to the modern day? Unless it somehow came into the family possession of the ruling family of one of the great powers or you move history in a completely different direction whilst they might be able to dodge the German mediatisation like a few of the other smaller states did once Germany starts moving towards a more unitary state they're going to start losing their power. Liechtenstein managed to retain their independence but that was more down to a happy accident of geography than anything else.

Odds are it would be hard to avoid mediatization but not impossible. The only real reason they wouldn't of gone through this is if the First Coalition was a victory for the HRE but this would have severe butterflies in itself.
