Nazi Science: Now with Chernobyl

Hey all,

Reading a book the other day, I came across a scene where the Nazis decided that the Grand Mufti was really Circassian, not an Arab, because he was intelligent; almost, in the words of one, as smart as a Japanese. We all know about how physics was viewed as a "Jewish science", and the USSR, of course, managed to produce strange scientific trends: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysenkoism

Clealry the Greater German Reich would screw up science in interesting ways, but what, exactly?

Assuming heavy SS influence through the Ahnenerbe, archaeology would be pretty kriffed up before long (IIRC, they managed that already IOTL).

Astronomy had be very srewup by Heinrich Himmler to Astrology
and theory of origin of Solarsystem as "Welteislehre"
of the Austrian Hans Hörbiger, a refrigeration engineer and amateur astronomer
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welteislehre

Himmler opposed Einstein theory of relativity and Newton law of gravity
wandet them replace them by Hans Hörbiger theory of "Welteislehre" :D

archaeology also, Himmler focus them on only ONE thing
to find origin of Aryan race: Atlantis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_archaeology

Geology
Himmler gave order made Earth Radar scann on Island of Rugen
to check is Earth is hollow...

i know, this geting slowly silly
but so was Heinrich Himmler...
...the rest of Nazi leaders was more insane!

Sure thing many were crazy, but Himmler was out of their league. He even proposed biofuels and wanted to turn the Crimean into a hunting preserve.

Then of course, we haven't even touched on religion (and possibly history).

Oberführer Wiligut was particularly funny...

Let's not exaggerate here. Faeelin mentioned Lysenko as a Soviet example, but that was the exception rather than the rule: after all, the Soviets were remarkably successful in space despite presumably having an ideological slant in the development of their space programme. Nazi ideology will most probably affect biology, historiography and archaeology, as some others said above, but I doubt it would have much impact on physics and chemistry. If something 'Jewish' like the A-bomb turns out to be a workable proposition, propagandists will just pull a 1984 and retcon everything so it was 'secretly' first invented by true Aryans before being 'stolen' by the Jews, or whatever. In the real world, ideology is usually adjusted to take pragmatism into account when it's something as serious as an issue which could involve the survival of the state.

When I was studying Primatology I read that 1930s Germany was a leader in the field and that German primatologists were the first to point that bonobos were a different species of master chimps (ahem ). I can see a version of the Ahnenerbe travelling through the world collecting monkeys and apes and trying to prove mysticist/racist theories in primate evolution like the ones of Henry Fairfield Osborn.

I dunno.

I mean, Genetics in the USSR took a serious hit that you can make a case it never really recovered from.

I don't think you'd see Himmleresque crazy, but I can seee serious problems.

Biology would be most seriously affected, I think.

It more likely that there be two kind of biology; the official and unofficial, the Nazi could be rather pragmatic, as long as the scientist keep low profil outside their field with the unofficial, they can research what they want and get the money.

When were they pragmatic?

When were they pragmatic?

When they made deals with Slovacs and Croats both slavs, when they didn't persecute the native Jews in westen Europe as much as the ones in easten Europe (the survival chance for a Belgium Jew was much larger than for a Polish Jew), when they choose to cooperate with the "non-aryan" Japanese etc.
