NATO vs. Libya, 1986.

In 1986, the US bombed Tripoli and Benghazi, in retaliation for Libyan support of terrorism. In retaliation for that, Libya fired two Scud missiles at the US coast Guard LORAN station at Lampedusa, Italy.

Now...what if the US (or Italy) considered that an act of war? What if one or the other invoked Article 5 of the NATO treaty? What would happen then?

Not going to speculate on that, but that was the only occasion when my mother told me to come directly home from school, no matter what, in case I heard anything about war being imminent.
