What do you think would be the most effective weapons against a tradition knight during a joust.
I was think a steel crossbow, a heavy pila and a flail.

One word, caltrops.
1. BothI don't know caltrops are hard to get into place in the context of a Joust.
I guess the questions I have for the OP are:
Are you going for the kill or humiliation?
Are you limited to the same time period as the Joust?
Can you prep the ground before the Joust?
Do you have to follow the rules of the Joust?
If not do you have escape plans for when everyone else goes after you if you break the rules?
After all the joust was high sport, think of how say Football (either style) fans would react if you were to pull out an iron bar and start breaking legs to get to the goal. I suspect you would get a similar reaction to using a Crossbow in a Joust.
