Nasser's successor in a surviving United Arab Republic

If the UAR is surviving maybe syria was thrown their bone of more autonomy, so i think whoever leads will have to be a Egyptian most likely sadat. Whats interesting is that he may not be able to purge the nasserist this time as they co-opted the bathist.

I don't think it's plausible for the UAR to survive. Its creation was based on the flawed notion that Arabs formed a cohesive ethnic group, like Germans or Italians. But that simply was and is not true, a person from Morocco would have a difficult time understanding someone from Iraq. And the fact that Syrians didn't want direct rule from Cairo just shows that.

Expect the same could be said of Italians. the majority of Italians didn't even speak Italian before unification some which weren't even in the same branch of Romance. Same goes for the French or various post-colonial states

So what, A lot of places are federations such as the United States and Canada. Even after the failure of United Arab Republic Syrian governments still espoused Pan-Arabism

Pan-Arabism in a way reminds me of Pan-slavicism. There’s a lot of regional differences so you’d a good deal of autonomy to deal with it otherwise those nations would resent the dominance.

The US and Canada have strong Federal Governments that issue a single currency for the entire nation and have a single military. Syria chose to break away because it resented having to share a military, currency, and economic policies with Egypt.

Expect the policies were imposed on Syria by Egypt. They didn't share anything as the country was a one-man dictatorship which mismanaged the economy .

Even the coup just wanted autonomy until Nasser tried to crush it
