Napoleon's daughters

What if Napoleon had at least two legitimate daughters relatively early into his emperorship (or earlier) and they both survive into adulthood ? His empire survives for a longer period time.

Note that French succession had a longstanding ban on female descent; Napoleon continued that OTL, and likely would ITTL as well (since changing it would be difficult, and he's likely to continue to hope for a son for some time after his daughters are born). So they aren't heirs to the throne, but could be wives for ambitious generals and/or client kings (in the same way that Murat married one of Napoleon's sisters OTL).

I'm sure that Napoléon would've found a way around that. I know he planned, that if the king of Rome was born female, to marry her to Louis-Hortense's son.

Napoleon certainly did not intend to allow female succession. He has an ace in his sleeve by the adoption clause : he could adopt any nephew of his and make him his heir, instead of following the line if succession. It seems Louis' sons were always his heirs presumptives, ahead of Joseph and Louis himself.

the distinction between "imperial family" and "civil family of the emperor" allowed Napoleon to add the children of Bonaparte princess to the imperial clan whithout making them dynasts and heirs. So any daughter of Napoleon might be just a tool to link the Bonaparte, the Wettins or the Wittelsbach.

Honestly the girl will end up in Vienna anyway, where her maternal family will find a suitable husband to her.

Hey, I did a post about this! And long story short...

Prince Henry is told "no you can't have Napoleon's daughter because of the Settlement Act"
