I am currently making my way through 'Napoleon the Great' by Andrew Roberts and thus far I would certainly recommend it to the other board members. On page 60 Roberts asserts that in August 1795 Napoleon considered taking up an offer to modernise the Sultan's artillery, joining the East India Company and also received interest from Russia to assist with their war against the Turks.
My question is if Napoleon accepts the offer of service with Russia, how would he perform with the Russian Army? Were there sufficient opportunities available for a man of his calibre within Imperial Russia at the time?
To me it seems like a fairly interesting POD to explore.
