Napoleon makes it to United States

At the end of the Hundred Days, Napoleon attempted flee France from the city of costal Rochefort, where he hoped to make his way to United States. His plan was foiled by a Royal Navy blockade, however, and he was captured.

What if, by some miracle, Napoleon had slipped the blockade and succesfuly landed in the America?

I think the US would try to capture him and then hand him over if only to avoid any trouble.

I wonder if the United States would harbor Napoleon? Remember, the War of 1812 officially ended in February 1815; Napoleon would arrive in late summer of that year. Regardless, I don't expect that Napoleon would stay in the USA for too long. The question is where he will try to seize power. He might go to Spain's colonies and try to establish himself in the chaos of Revolution. But I wouldn't put it past him to pop up on the other side of the globe, say in India.

He would probably receive an initial gala reception on behalf of the local elites eager to rub shoulders with the most infamous man in Europe. Shortly there after he'd likely be placed under house arrest and stay under house arrest at the behest of continental Europe. America is after all, farther from continental affairs then Elba.

Would the people of any Latin American nation really be that welcoming to Napoleon as I have heard many people say? He did lose, after all.

I doubt that the USA would keep him under arrest or hand him over. They are still at war with the United Kingdom. So handing him over to the Britons will be out of question. That makes even house arrest impossible. It is more likely that they treat him as an immigrant.

Not likely. Have you ever played the game hot potato? What do you do with the hot potato? Napoleon is the hot potato.
