Napoleon involvement in the 1812 war

This reminds me of Blackadder III (I'm pretty sure that's where it came from, or maybe it was the time travel one?) where they're talking about sending the Royal Navy to Alaska in case "in case Boney should try and trick us by coming via the North Pole".

Just out of curiosity, why in the world would Napoleon even want to send troops to the United States? Aside from Canada the British have no major interests there. And even if the US/French army were to conquer Canada, so what? The British still have the French mostly bottled up on the continent. Napoleon's continental system is a disaster, Russia is gong to completely ignore Nappy's demands to adhere to it... He has restless allies/neutral states all around him. The British still command the Atlantic, Med, Indian Ocean...

Though I assume he isn't going to try and send a million men across the Atlantic, that would be completely ASB. Without invading Russia though, he could firmly secure the Iberian peninsula, maybe crush Wellington there, but then... stuck again.

If Napoleon could have used his fleet agaisnt the RN in 1812 why wouldn't he just invade Britain? It's a much shorter sailing distance than crossing the Atlantic.

Napoleonic Sealion! Someone quick photoshop a sealion wearing a tricolor beret... :D

Seriously, though, why would Napoleon want to get involved in the War of 1812? He has problems enough in his own backyard.
