Napoleon in America

no, not in terms of Napoleon trying to conquer America ;)

im considering that a change from OTL in Anglo-American Rivalry could be that the ship taking Napoleon to St. Helena is captured by American sailors in a longer War of 1812 and diverted to the United States, so Napoleon ends up "exiled" in the US instead of the south Atlantic. something ive wondered about related to this is what this would do for US-French and US-British foreign relations, and whether or not Napoleon would be happy with this or try to continue a military career in the US

Lord Cochrane planned to rescue Napoleon while he was en route to fight Chile's independence war. However, the Emperor was killed before he got there. Suppose that Napoleon isn't given poison and lives relatively well in 1821 and you can have him leading Chile in the war. It is guaranteed that Dom Pedro I will invite him over to Brazil once it gets independent in 1822 and if he didn't get anything useful to do in Chile he could very well go to Rio.

Or do you mean in the USA?

i had meant the US, but napoleon in chile could be interesting. since this is for Anglo-American Rivalry, if chile kinda gets cozy with france, it could eventually lead to an american-chilean alliance (which is something i wanted to explore, giving the US a fair amount of unconventional allies)

Chile won't be cozy with France in that case. What with Louis XVIII and Charles X on the thone and all.

Wouldn't they just imprison him elsewhere? I don't think they would put him in US territory.

Also I have a TL called Nappy in Texas which has Napoleon becoming Emperor of Mexico.

Are these American sailors acting on their own or on orders from the US government? How are they going to out maneuver and escape the clutches of the British royal navy? Why on earth would the US government allow a man with a continent-sized ego and thirst for power, one with an extremely large target on his back into the US?

the idea is that a US ship happens to see the european one while on patrol and, just as a spit in the face to britain (perhaps the ship is flying the british flag), they decide to attack the ship and capture it, learning after the fact that napoleon is on board; as another spit in the face, they bring him to the US. remember, this is for a larger TL project, "Anglo-American Rivalry", one of the PODs of which is that the War of 1812 lasts longer than IOTL

they'd probably decide to attack it on their own (though would probably have had orders beforehand to sink/capture whatever british ships they happened upon since theyre at war and all). presumably, this would have happened without the royal navy ever finding out until marooned british sailors are found, and would probably involve some near misses on the way back from other british ships (unless the americans use the captured ship and continue flying the british flag). napoleon himself could potentially be an asset to the US as an allied general in the rest of the war
