Napoleon dies at Marengo

WI Napoleon was KIA at the Battle of Marengo on June 14, 1800? Having been in power as First Consul for a bit more than 6 months, he had already had the time to pass some useful reforms but not to pervert the system. Things could get very interesting. How will Cambacérès and Lebrun deal with the situation? Will they manage to cling to power? Does the US still get Louisiana?

The U.S. will still get Louisiana but it may not be thru peaceful means any longer. TBH, I doubt Spain will be able to hold on to it much longer, and should a governor end up being particularly odious, there could be rioting, or even a full-scale revolt(as what happened in my TL, A Nation, Divided), and certainly, I think America would gladly take advantage of that.

France makes peace with the rest of Europe circa 1802 and goes on to be a moderate, even slightly oligarchical, republic.

I disagree the rest of Europe wanted the bourbon back on the french throne even before Napoleon was in charge.

Right, that's why the rest of Europe made peace with France and gave up on supporting the claims of the Bourbons with the treaties of Lunéville (1801) and Amiens (1802). The Second Coalition was already breaking down as of Marengo, and even with Napoleon dead France still has plenty of other very capable commanders and leaders to see her through.
