Napoleon Creating A United Italy?

Why would Brits want Corsica, I wonder... The island is nicely strategicaly situated maybe, but way bigger than those Anglo-Normand islands, with a population who want some self rule - or hell is going to be paid... and rather poor in ressources, I think....

Why the 'merchants nation' would want it?

Because they figure that a protectorate in the bag is a good bargaining chip and better them than the French, maybe?
They didn't want Corsica. What they wanted was for France NOT to have it. So they supported Pascal Paoli. It would have been an independent nation under British protection - not rule.

So were Napoleon's parents, unless everyone got their citizenship revoked.

Except that the citizenship of Garibaldi's weren't revoked (apart during napoleonic period).

Being geonese in Nice meant being distinct culturally from population (occitan-speaking) AND administration (french up to 1815), while Bonaparte family managed to integrate itself in the french administration while keeping ties with corsican population.
