Napoleon Assassinated - 1800

On December 24, 1800 a bomb placed by the chouans (royalist/peasant guerillas in Brittany) detonated moments after Napoleon's carriage passed by. Now if the bomb is detonated on time and Napoleon is killed, what will happen?

I'm not exactly sure how the succession works, but I assume the second consul (Neufchateau) becomes first consul. Most obviously, we have averted the Empire, but can the Consulary Constitution survive without Bonaparte?
