Napoleon-American Exile?

At my friends' house the other day was flipping through a book called Napoleons Exile 1816-1824; and evidently L'Emperor had a 'flight of fancy' in that he thought he would have a sympathetic cause with the U.S @ the time (they had, after all fought with England 1812-15 )

I'm not entirely certain of the circumstances that would make it happen, and im pretty sure that it wouldn't given there were probably a great many people who wanted him dead or in any case "out of the picture"

But lets say for the sake of discussion, that somehow or another the U.S is receptive to sheltering Napoleon as a way to poke England in the eye, or something. Sorry its not well and truly fleshed out, i was thinking of making a TL or something but i have no idea what the effects would be, though if anyone has any idea, feel free :)

P.S Wrong Section can someone please move it to pre-1900? Thanks!

I've read that Napoleon had ideas of escaping to the US too. An interesting thought, a ship carrying Napoleon sailing up the Chesapeake with the British fleet in hot pursuit.
