Nancy Kerrigan not attacked

Harding's bodyguard drops dead of a heart attack and as a result, Nancy Kerrigan is not attacked. What happens with Harding's career?

Likely forgotten. Another buttefly is that people like me with little intrest in figure skating would not watch the figure skating event at Lillehammer

A few less 'trailer park trash' remarks.

Definitely. Had the attack not taken place, the US Olympic story line might have spun very differently by NBC: both Kerrigan and Harding were working class kids, not from the moneyed crew. If I remember correctly, Kerrigan's dad was a welder who worked several jobs to help pay for all the lessons and travel and such.

Holy Shit, NBC really got it wrong!

One, I would like a reference or two to check this out.

And if true, yet another example that the media very quickly and sloppily develops a line. I remember the phrase "hard scrabble" being applied to Tonya. As if that's the main function of big-time "journalists" from fancy colleges is to turn an interesting phrase.

Thats what the owners/publishers pay them to do. Hence the characterization of working class Harding as "trailer park trash". The idea appealed to a lot of different news watchers other than the Jerry Springer crowd.

one thing I vaguely remember about Kerrigan is that after the Olympics, she stole someone's husband... one of her coaches or trainers, IIRC...

...which is why I seldom watch TV news, buy newspapers, & the slick news magazines. I get my news mostly from professional journals & media that caters to specific groups. It may be as biased as any but it is real news & not infotainment.
