Name Suggestions for Greater San Francisco

Greater San Francisco movement of 1912

In 1912, there was a movement to create a Greater San Francisco in which southern Marin County, the part of Alameda County which includes Oakland, Piedmont and Berkeley, and northern San Mateo County from San Bruno northwards would have become outer Boroughs of San Francisco, with the City and County of San Francisco functioning as Manhattan, based on the New York City model. East Bay opposition defeated the San Francisco expansion plan in the California legislature, and later attempts at San Francisco Bay Area metropolitan area consolidation in 1917, 1923, and 1928 also failed to be implemented.
In the historical example the annexed counties would have become a part of the city of San Francisco acting like New York City's outer boroughs, New York however has the advantage of the central borough, Manhattan, having a distinct name and identity to the city as a whole. The proposal went down like the Hindenburg, but supposing for a moment that they somehow managed to work things out and that as part of the negotiating it was agreed that the new city would receive a new name. Can anyone think of a decent alternative instead of Greater San Francisco?

The Takeshi Kovacs books called it Bay City, but San Francisco Bay City is probably cheating. ;)

Go back even further and it was Yerba Buena, I think. Maybe Pacifica, based mostly on personal taste? It hadn't been incorporated yet and has a name that's both neutral and grandiose enough.

Naming the combined city after the straights might work too -- how about Golden Gate or Chrysopylae?

I'm not so much interested in the name, as the political dynamic of upending the established order of Federal-State-Country-Municipality (if applicable) to become Federal-State-Super Combined Municipality-County.

Isn’t New York Ciry basically this? Each Borough is equal to a county according to the New York State constitution, but the Mayor of New York City is like the supreme leader of the 5 boroughs.

Something I just learned, the leader of each borough is actually called the President. So there is a an actual job of President of Queens and President of Brooklyn.

Yes it is the only place in the US where Municipal power is concentrated like that, and I couldn't name you a single mayor of LA or Chicago but I could give you a couple of NY mayors off the top of my head.

Hmmm...off the top of my head

For Chicago, I know Daley (helped JFK win in 1960, 1968 DNC riots) and the current Rahm Emanuel (former Obama aid).

For LA, I only know the current Eric Garcetti.

For NYC, I know Bill de Blasio (current), Bloomberg (soda), Giuliani (9/11), Dinkins (first black mayor), Lindsay (60s), Koch(80s), and La Guardia (airport and the very excellent AH timeline ''Ruins of an American Party System'') .

I've only heard of Eric Garcetti because I watched the 2016 US Olympic Marathon Trials on TV and they were held in LA and he was the starting official. Then they interviewed him about LA's Olympics bid...

It would be called San Francisco, since that’s the name of the bay. Old San Francisco would be renamed the City of San Francisco, like the difference between London and City of London.
