Name for A Fascist American Leader

I agree with others that they would probably stick with president i could see them adding honorary titles as well though. Maybe something like "First Citizen."

Actually, I like First Citizen. You can imagine somebody saying that in a radio or television address: "First Citizen Andrews today said he will stand strong against Canadian aggression on the Wisconsin border..."

Using such pseudo-Native American lingo isn't something I'd see an American fascist party doing.

I don't really see "The Chief" as being pseudo-Native American. People use the term "chief" in daily life without instantly bringing to mind tomahawks, tepees, or other stereotypical Amerindian things. I could easily see "the Chief" become sort of a term of endearment (although probably not his actual title).

It never occurred to me "The Chief" in this context was "pseudo Native-American"

I agree with others that "The President" would work just fine and fits American history.

Other possibilities which are both comman terms and which could fit an American model of dictatorial leadership:

Commander in Chief (or just Commander)
Chief Protector
Director
Chief Executive
Guide"
Chairman
Father*
Prophet*

*these would work for AH com's chief bugaboo - an American Theocracy

and of course my favorite Bushism,

The Decider

The Executive
Imperial President
National Authority
Emergency Authority
The Head
Citizen (as opposed to mere citizens)
Acting Emergency President (for your post apocalyptic scenarios)
Chief Justice (hey why can't the judiciary go fascist?)
Majority Leader (or the legislature?)

Oooh. I like National Authority (why not just "The Authority"). I think I'll start calling myself that.

For whatever it is worth, Sinclair Lewis (a pretty decent writer) in his then FH and now AH novel "It Can't Happen Here" had President Buzz Windrip ( a thinly disguised Huey Long) being referred to as "the Chief" The name of the Democratic Party was changed to the Corpratist Party and the symbol of the Party was a ship's sterring wheel. The strong arm bully boys of the Party were "the Minutemen" and they wore white shirts.

The thing is Hitler was replacing a new and relatively unpopular system. Chancellor wasn't an established title, there's no problem withe changing that to fuhrer.
With the US though...it has to stick with president. You have to keep some legitimacy in there.
President-general is about the most deviant I think you can get with a first generation fascist leader. Maybe his successors after a century or so can start being emperor but he can't.

I think Commander in Chief would be the most likely one. As said above you need some legitimacy and it would be impossible to change it to something like Emperor or Supreme Chancellor without people going 'WTF?¿?' Commander in Chief is an existing title that the President has and it also connotes the militarism of a fascist leader. In the end he would still have both titles but it is only a matter of making Commander in Chief more popular than president.
