I read today that had Nadir Shah (the ruler of Persia) somehow escaped his drastic physical and mental decline in the 1740s, and had his son or someone else continued Nadir Shah's policies, the Persian Empire would have benefitted. It would have been modernized to a significant extent. What effects would a continuation of Nadir Shah's policies have had on the Persian Empire, and on the Ottomans, Moghuls, etc.? How would it affect Muslim fundamentalism, Israel, the Iranian economy, etc., way down the road - e.g. in the late 20th century?
