Myth idea: Greco-Roman End times?!?

Wikipedia said:
In Greek mythology, Metis /ˈmiːtɨs/ (Μῆτις, "wisdom," "skill," or "craft") was of the Titan generation and, like several primordial figures, an Oceanid, in the sense that Metis was born of Oceanus and his sister Tethys, of an earlier age than Zeus and his siblings. Metis was the first great spouse of Zeus,[1] and also his cousin.[2] Zeus is himself titled Mêtieta, "the wise counsellor," in the Homeric poems.

"Zeus lay with Metis but immediately feared the consequences. It had been prophesied that Metis would bear extremely powerful children: the first, Athena and the second, a son more powerful than Zeus himself, who would eventually overthrow Zeus."[5]

In order to forestall these dire consequences, Zeus tricked her into turning herself into a fly and promptly swallowed her.[6] He was too late: Metis had already conceived a child. In time she began making a helmet and robe for her fetal daughter. The hammering as she made the helmet caused Zeus great pain, and Hephaestus either clove Zeus's head with an axe,[7] or hit it with a hammer at the river Triton, giving rise to Athena's birth. Athena leaped from Zeus's head, fully grown, armed, and armored, and Zeus was none the worse for the experience.

I don't think Greco-Roman myth ever went on to elaborate on the prophecy. But what if it did? Could there be a strain of messianic or eschatological thought within such myths about the coming of a new god who could overthrow Zeus? How would such an alternate myth form, could it affect Greek society like so many millenarian movements throughout time? Greek myth is usually thought to be fairly peaceful, with the deities being squabbling and petty as humans, and no end times as there are in say Norse or Mesoamerican religions. What if they did?

Also how would this affect Battlestar Galactica?

Well, to be honest, I think the only result of Metis bearing a son to overthrow his father is gonna be that Greco-Roman society is perhaps going to have a justified tradition of sons usurping the rights of their dads. Rhea gave Kronos a rock in place of Zeus and a stallion in place of Poseidon when he was going through his infantophagi phase.

Also, bear in mind, the Fates predicted an overthrow of Zeus several times. Thetis (mother of Achilles) was likewise predicted to be a sort of fulfiller of this prophecy, which is why Zeus and Poseidon both stopped courting her and married her to Peleus.

Son usurpers crops up all of the time in Greek mythology. Though to be fair, based on how you describe it, the idea of Zeus, in his infinite pettiness, getting his rule usurped isn't a huge issue I suppose, given how likely his decadence would have led to his downfall. And there was a very challenging time when the gods turned into animals and fled to Egypt because Typhon arose, though Zeus was not one of them. (Typhon seems like the type of big bad to be involved in a Greco-Roman eschatology, wouldn't he?) So I guess the rule of the Olympian gods were never 100% secure, mostly because they were such jerks and fools. And one can probably insert a cosmic cyclical element into the myth, what with Uranus being overthrown by the Titans and the Olympians then overthrowing the Titans and so on.

I still think it would be cool if there is a millenarian movement about one of Zeus' bastards coming to overthrow him with a new generation of deities.
