Anybody read this book by Zack Parsons with this wonderfully ungrammatical and nonsensical title? It is a "basically factual" series of articles on odd-ball secret weapons of WW2, focusing, as would be expected, mostly on Nazi stuff (although HMS Habbakkuk got some attention).
What sets it apart is the fact that it adopts a sarcastic and humorous approach to the material and each article also contains a fictional account of an alternate developmental history of each weapon leading to its deployment as well as a very short story involving each weapon in this alternate world focusing on a few characters, German, Russian, and American. There are even some goof-ball paintings. The cover alone is almost worth the 14 bucks.
I wouldn't consider this book a particularly authorative study of this topic, not when most of the sources are from the Internet. Also, anyone expecting believable alternate history will be disappointed, but it was a great read.
