My First Timeline: The American Prussia

Chapter One: Foundations of Conflict
In 1787 the constitutional convention fails. Virginia refused to accept the NewJersey Plan or the Conneticut Compromise. Virginia's ambition would change the course of History. Thomas Jefferson's untimely death during a comute from Virginia to Philidelphia in the Revolution has lessened the unifying force of the Colonies. Holding nearly a 1/3 of the colonial population, the remainder of the soon to be states, disband the articles of confederation and loose almost all ties of brotherhood.
This soon rises to conflict between states. New governments soon form in many of these states. The States of South and North Carolina decide to reunite and become the state of Carolina. At this time the only states with the capability of retaining a continuous independance without outside assistance are NewYork, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
New alliances began to be made. In 1789, the states of Massachustsus(sorry for misspelling), Conneticut, Rhode Island, and North Mass(Maine) formed the NewEngland confederation. New Hapmshire had been asked to join but declined. NewJersey and Pennsylvania formed a close relaitionship, but no official alliance. The same happened between Virginia, Maryland, and Deleware.
Georgia ended up being alone. Being more loyal then the other states to their mother country, Georgia opened it's borders to the mass exodus of Loyalists from the other colonies. This would lead Georgia down a path of war in the future. Territorial conflicts begin to rise and peaceful negotiations breakdown as each State(except Rhode Island) prepares for war.

Chapter Two: The New Hampshire War
Throughout the early years of the post convention NewYork had been threatening New Hampshire to give up the disputed western half of their state. Because of a growing threat from NewYork, New Hampshire sends delegates to the NewEngland Confederation, now wishing to accept the offer of joining them.
The NewEngland confederation's constitution was not much better then the Articles of Confederation. Only a few differences were actually made. There was only a small legislation that had very little power. This alliance was made up of only 4 unifying factors; a common currency between members, unitely recognized treaties, a simple majority rules acceptance committee, and a unified defense force.
This unified defense force was the most appealing, yet unappealing aspect of the confederation. If any member state was attacked by a foreign power(European or Otherwise) then the other states were obligated to assist militarily. But if any of the states attacked a foreign power, and then the foreign power attacked back, the other states were not obligated to assist.
NewHampshire was accepted in 1792 by a simple majority of 2 to 1(Rhode Island). This did little to detir NewYork(NY) from attacking. In 1795, NewYork invaded the disputed territory in western NewHampshire(vermont). The NewEngland confederation(NEC) quickly Mobilized to defened its brother NewHampshire(NH). By May of 1795 the NEC had stopped the NY forces from pushing forward. Under the brilliant leadership of General Benedict Arnold(who in this timeline did not betray the Colonies) was able to push back the NY forces out of NH. The NEC Signed the Treaty of Providence with NY, officially ending the war between the NEC and NY. However things were not all fine with this. It was approved by a 3-1 vote. NewHampshire did not like the treaty. They only recieved a small reparation for the damage they received(it was small even by the standards of those days). New Hampshire, feeling ambitious, attacked NewYork by itself. They attacked eastern NewYork and got good ground quickly, but that would not last. NewYork, fighting a smaller power, quickly fought back and pushed NH out. Then they pushed forward into NH, taking the land they wanted. NH pleaded for help from the rest of the confederation, but according to the common defense rule, they were not obligated. So NY pushed all the way through NH, capturing the Entire state. Under these circumstances, NY forced NH to sign a harshly unfair treaty. This became known as the Manhattan treaty. There were four main articles to this treaty, the first was 1). the disputed territory in NewHampshire state is to be annexed into NY, 2). NY may militarily occupy NH until 1805, 3). NH may not initiate a draft, or have government paid military men until 1805, 4). NH was to pay a reparation to NY of apprx 10 times what they had paid NH in the Treaty of Providence. NH begrudingly excepted. Now NH is Half its original size, occupied by a foreign power, in debt, and can't create an army to defend itself until 1805. The year is now 1797. NH remains in the NEC on support from Mass. These events will lead to a future conflict within the North East.
