Muslims loose the Battle of Khaybar

For one, should Islam manage to hold together and not splinter, we now have another faith that views the Jews as murderers of their most revered prophet.

Second, the Muslims did not capture Mecca or Medina until 630 with Arabia hostile to the growing forces of Islam, which means that an array of threats still remain without Muhammad there to guide his followers through. Can his successor accomplish what the prophet did?

The real question is what happens to Islam itself. Perhaps Muslim forces turn to infighting to find a successor or lose faith preserving paganism in the Arabian peninsula. Or if the Muslims hold together, perhaps the Meccans prove capable of crushing them through future attacks and diplomacy with the various Arab tribes.

The worst outcome for Islam is if Muhammad's followers lose faith and disperse. With their leader dead and the faith abandone the butterflies really get to flapping. We'd probably see the Byzantines hang on longer and the Crusades fail to happen. What does that mean for the Renaissance, Spain, Africa, and even India/Pakistan?
