Muslim Civilizations without the Mongol invasions?

It took a lot of special circumstances to get the industrial revolution going in Europe. The more you study it the more you realize its not just a matter of having an advanced civilization pre-pre-industrail as existed in parts of the Arab world or NE Asia from time to time. I'd put the Arab world as a distant third for having he industrial revolution of the three main civilizations.

Besides, the middle east was constantly being taken over by this or that group of horsemen. It's just how the region was designed. The Mongols were just a particularly nasty one.

Probably not. The Islamic world had pretty much run the course of other cultures' technological and scientific gains to appropriate, and what existed of native Arabic progress was toast by the time of Baghdad, as well explored in this thread.
