Musical AHC: Have most of the world's anthem be God Save the Queen or songs using the same tune.

God Save the Queen was perhaps one of the most widely used anthem in history, if only because the British Empire had occupied at one point or another over a good proportion of the world. And many others had made music using the same tune as the British anthem, such as "My Country Tis to Thee".

What might the greatest extent of having that tune be used for the national anthem of various countries around the world?

British world conquest TL. You know it makes sense.

How about we make the ultimate Gurkhaboo fantasy? The UK recruits ALL the colonial troops: Zulus, Amerindian, Chinese kung-fu masters, everyone. And sics them on everyone who isn't them. Imagine it: Indians fighting in China, Chinese colonial troops fighting in the Americas, Amerindian colonial troops fighting in Africa, African troops fighting in India.

This obviously doesn't result in any issues at all and instead the Brits conquer the entire world.

Maybe the Great War is somehow postponed until the 50s/60s.

Britain stays out of the war for whatever reason. Germany, France, and Russia end up obliterating each other in nuclear hellfire.

The British sweep in and take control of the radioactive remains.

If the European colonial holdings were preserved, the United States adopted My Country 'Tis of Thee as their national anthem, and France restored the monarchy with Grand Dieu, sauvez le Roi as its anthem, you would have the German Empire, British Empire (including India), the French Empire, and the United States (alongside another assorted handful of independent kingdoms around the world) all using the tune of God Save the King as their national anthems. That would give you a clear majority of the world's population.

It have been or is widely used - look up the wiki! ;)
By 1981 Switzerland abolished the old national anthem Rufst du mein vaterland which used the God save the King for the melodi.
Norway use the melody for the Royal Anthem Kongesangen; Lichtenstein uses it; Heil dir im siegeskranz have been mentioned; Bavaria; Saxony; briefly Greece; Thailand; Imperial Russia; Hawaii; old Swedish royal anthem; former Icelandic national anthem.
I did know of the Swiss and Norwegian but the others were surprising.
Actually its useable by any royalty.

Yeah, iirc before anthems were a thing it was used by pretty much most of European royalty.

Yeah, but it strikes me that maybe we're thinking too small.

"To think of these stars that you see overhead at night, these vast worlds which we can never reach. I would annex the planets if I could; I often think of that. It makes me sad to see them so clear and yet so far." -- Cecil Rhodes

This is relevant for this thread.

France, United Kingdom, Kingdom of Prussia, Kingdom of Sweden, Kingdom of Hanover, Kingdom of Bavaria, Kingdom of Greece, Kingdom of Saxony, Russian Empire , United States of America, Switzerland, Siam, Hawaiʻi, German Empire, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein

Just find a way to preserve the above anthems.

One quick question - why? The tune is a boring dirge. How the queen manages to endure it several times a day, every day is beyond me - it would drive me insane in a couple of days.

Now a thread looking for a new tune to replace the miserable excuse for an anthem might be more interesting...
