Music WI: Van Halen goes thrash

Actually, the female singer VH wanted to get was Patty Smyth (NOT to be confused with Patty SMITH) of Scandal fame. While The Warrior was a cool song, i cant see her taking VH in a heavier direction.

Could Lita ford be the female singer fo VH,i like her voice, although i don´t know anything about her personality.Honestly speakin i enjoyed Vh with Samy Hagar,i just lo the song Dreams, with the Blue Angels video!

It's possible, I mean at this time, she was kind of in limbo as to what to do. Although, I'm sure she'd clash with Eddie Van Halen at some point. As for whether or not the direction would be heavier, it probably wouldn't have changed much. Lita's first two albums were more metal, but her self titled album Lita was standard pop rock/metal, much like what Van Halen were making around that time.

Patty Smyth has the chops to pull off a Joan Jett style, although she'd probably wind up drifting closer to Pat Benatar. Of course, a female-led Van Halen headed in the thrash direction would probably be better off with Joan herself....

Personally, i wonder if they'd change the style of their older songs when they play them in concert. Can you imagine thrashier versions of Feel Your Love Tonight or Mean Street?

Even if they became Thrash, I still think they'd retain a little pop edge. I imagine it would be like Slave To The Grind with a female singer.

The big Van Halen "what if" that's always interested me is, "What if Eddie had replaced Ace Frehley in Kiss?" They eventually settled on Vinnie Vincent, of course, but from what I've heard Eddie Van Halen joining Kiss was a possibility in the early 1980s, but Gene Vincent convinced him to stay in his own band.

Now that would have been interesting. And a perfect opportunity for Loudness guitarist Akira Takasaki to join Van Halen, who would have brought a much needed heaviness to the band. And it also makes it easier for Minoru Niihara to join later on after Diamond Dave leaves.

Just a thought:
1985: While considering a new singer one of the bands management checks out a local band by the name of Razor White. While nothing special and covering mostly Judas Priest tracks, the singer is pretty good.
A few weeks later EVH catches a show and decides that their singer is the one for him. He's 17 but has the potential to do what he needs in a singer.

After some negitiation with the singers parents, (as he's still a minor), Van Halen reveal their new singer: Philip Anselmo.
