Music WI: No Kraftwerk

What if the aforementioned godfathers of electronic music had been averted to do their stuff?

Well, electronic music would either be very different or be of a different name. Hard to predict, really.

Considering that they are considered to be about as influential as the Beatles, I'd say modern music goes into a very different direction.
For example: what would David Bowie be influenced by?

NO KRAFTWERK !?
that "end of world" for me !
and in music would also !!

i mean "Metal on Metal" (from Trans-europe-express)
is most sampled piece of music in world

wat hell do Afrika Bambaataa with out "Metal on Metal" and "Trans-europe-express" ?
there would be no Electro-Funk and no artists or band like:

Gary Numan, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Human League, Depeche Mode, Devo, Joy Division, Telex, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Giorgio Moroder, New Order, Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire, Art of Noise, Yello, Ultravox, Visage and Thomas Dolby.

alternative ?
Jean-Michel Jarre
Tangerine Dream
Wendy Carlos (born Walter Carlos)
Brian Eno

but is that like KRAFTWERK ?
no way

for those how dont't know KRAFTWERK

I wouldn´t want to live in that kind of an ATL.

:D

Just, love Kraftwerk.

Good POD, I think arguably Kraftwerk could qualify as more influential than the Beatles. The Beatles were superpopular, but hardly original, they followed the flow.

Kraftwerk created a river on their own.

(Not that I don´t like the Beatles, I do too).

There is some electronic music bound too come up though. Already, the dadaists were experimenting with electronic sounds and strange instruments, and on the Avant Garde scene people were doing that, Kraftwerk started out playing in Museums, and Performance Art venues. I´d say someone else would break the ice. That person might come from France, Britain, or USA.

So basically a lot of electro-funk and electro-pop disappears. I suggest maybe elctronic music becomes either more ethereal or perhaps more melodic a la Jarre? -and thus less hard and beat-driven. Not all THAT bad IMO, though a lot of '80s pop loses it's attraction.
