Muhammed Ali Accepts His Draft Call-Up, How Does The World Change?

The real reason why this man is almost universaly admired as the greatest sportsperson of the 20th century is because he held true to his beliefs!
The man, whom he actually regards as the greatest boxer ever, 'the brown bomber', Joe Louis, did actually answer the call, where he did exhibitions for the US army during WW2. Eventually of course, this great man went broke from a huge tax demand by Uncle Sam. Indeed, his arch-nemisis and ultimately great friend ( who post WW2, where he had to fight for the Nazis, became a very successful businessperson), Max Schmelling, contributed towards his funeral expenses, Max lived well into his 90s!
How does Vietnam change, black civil rights change, Muhammed Change, The USA change and the world change, if the 'greatest' goes to 'fight' the people who never used the 'N' word against him?

"The man, whom he actually regards as the greatest boxer ever, 'the brown bomber', Joe Louis, did actually answer the call, where he did exhibitions for the US army during WW2.

Very different time. Very different war. Not a parallel at all.

"How does Vietnam change, black civil rights change, Muhammed Change, The USA change and the world change, if the 'greatest' goes to 'fight' the people who never used the 'N' word against him?

Very interesting question. Remember, his name change was not recognized officially. He was called "Cassius Clay" and his induction. That would be the first friction point right there.

Exhibitions? Don't count on that. Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali would been most likely Oh-Three-F'in-Hundred...Basic Infantryman. Next stop..."Vee-et-Nahm".

Hmmm... Imagine...

March 16, 1968 -- My Lai, South Vietnam..
"This man here is VC!" the ARVN coloniel said. "He is VC! Must die now!"

The villager was pleading for his life. In frantic Vietnamese he wailed. "I know no VC! I am not VC!"

The U.S. Army Lieutenant didn't buy it. He wanted to kill the man.

"PRIVATE CLAY, FRONT AND CENTER," the Lieutenant said.

A tall big black man came forward. He was frowning at what he saw. Dumbfounded to what he was seeing.

"Private Ali...reporting as ordered sir!"

The Lieutenant rolled his eyes. "Don't give me that Muslim shit right now, boy! Shoot this slant-eyed Communist bastard. That's an order."

The private looked into the man's eyes. He was afraid. He was alone. Like much of village he was scared.

"I will not shoot this man, sir," the private said.

"I gave you a direct order."

"This man is afraid and is no threat to you. This village is no threat. Ain't no damn VC here," the private said. "This man ain't called me 'nigra' or 'boy'. The only people done that are the people wearing U.S. uniforms."

"YOU BLACK BASTARD, KILL HIM THAT'S AN ORDER,"

BANG!

An ARVN trooper did the job. The man's body dropped in a pool of blood on the village street.

The ARVN colonel looked at the American coldly. "You should do better job with your pickaninnies, Lieutenant."

He spat a slur at the private in Vietnamese.

The private was defiant. "May Allah forgive him as he and Nguyen Van Thieu burn in hell," he said back.

"Nigra, you will hang for this," the Lieutenant said as two trooper put the man into custody.

"Allah u Akbar," the private sang softly and serenely as they led him away. "Allah u Akbar."

If Ali had cooperated with the American Imperialists, there is no doubt he would have purely had to perform exhibition boxing contests for the foot soldiers. If he had been killed in action, there would be hell to pay!
Also, it was completely wrong that he was stripped of hiss world title! Would he in practical terms have been allowed to keep it, if he was a soldier in the US army, even if only for raising morale/PR reasons!

Even in the worst parts of Vietnam, was anyone ever arrested for refusing to take part in an obvious war crime? What are they going to charge him with? I could believe they might, given a screwed up enough situation, just frag him. Morover, why is a US Lt taking orders from an ARVN Colonel to execute a civvy?

Mohammed Ali was told he would box for the entertainment of other soldiers and wouldn't actually serve in combat.

The My Lai episode would not have happened.
