Muammar al-Gaddafi killed on April 15th 1986?

So what if Reagans airstrikes had been successfull? Gaddafi killed in 1986?

What would have happened to Libya??

I think it'd be pretty crazy since it'll be one foreign power killing another's leader. This sounds incredibly unprecedented for 20th century times.

Some slightly less flamboyant kleptocratic asshole makes Libyans miserable for the period 1986-2011.

One of the henchmen eod have taken over.

Agreed, the questions now are who is the odds on favorite, how long they'll be able to hold onto power, and what policies they'll follow.

One thing is certain, Chad, the Sudan, Lockerbie, and many many other things are either going to change out of recognition or not occur at all.

This is what results...
A terrorist in "The Delta Force" (1986) said:
It's your government we fight. It's your White House. One day, I will go there. I will drive a truck...and blow it up. Don't you think we have friends in America?
And with Reagan focusing domestic surveillance on peace groups it's likely that things won't be obvious until it's all over...

As said earlier, one of his henchmen takes over.

I don't think that his family had a candidate that could take over the country in 1986, it's clear now that Gaddafi is/was looking to put one of his children in power as his successor. Libya more or less continues the historical path it did to the modern day.

Question I would wonder about, what effect would this have on state-sponspored terrorism. Would the leaders of the other countries come to the conclusion that an air strike by the United States could "accidentally" kill them if they acted up too much and act accodingly?
