Mr. Jefferson's War.

My question is simple, what would have happened had war broken out between the United States and Great Britain over the Chesapeake-Leapard Affair. Instead of the embargo of 1807-we get the war of 1807.

How badly do things go for President Jefferson and the Republicans in such a timeline.

What kind of outcome can we see in such a war?

Does Jefferson run for a third term with this ongoing conflict existing, or does he hand the reigns over to James Madison.

Does the war even last into November of 1808?

It'd be nothing good for the US, that's for sure.

Oh the local militias would try to invade Canada as they did OTL in 1812 and get utterly beaten, again.

Oh and 1807, the Fourth Coalation War was just ending so we'd see the British best in this, and as the Penninsular War wouldn't flame up until 1809, Wellington's best would get a full year to run roughshod over us.

In such a timeline Jefferson would be giving into cries for war over the incident, though if this is ASB level unplausible I do apologize.
