Most plausible history

There has been several threads stating that OTL is ASB.
what would an ATL be like if the most plausible thing always happened?

What events would change?

humanity wouldn't be here?

but post 1900? um no WWI, i mean the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is ASB one wrong turn + 19 year old kid= one the worst wars.

Schmeh. That is pretty ASB, and a surviving Ferdie will of course have butterflies (big ones for Austria-Hungary, I should think), but the German general staff, who had a famously inordinate hold on politics, were determined to fight before '16. WW1 was coming and by, say, '08 (Bosnia) nothing could stop a war with much the same sides short of more ASBs.

Well most likely nothing would ever change and we'd still just be highly evolved primates hanging around the Ouldavai Gorge

Evolution is irrelevant because the POD is after 1900.

Now, WWI would not be completely avoided, but the ATL conflict would likely be more diplomatic and less destructive. Most important, Germany would not be severely punished, so the seeds of WWII might not be there.

After OTL WWI, German patents became public domain. Not so in ATL. Some of the important patents included Aspirin and the Haber process for chemically fixing atmospheric nitrogen for agriculture and explosives. With a royalty going to Germany for modern ammonia production for several years, what is the impact on the modernization of high yield agriculture? Do we see a 10-15 year delay?

That's an interesting thing, I'd never heard about those patents. It might restrict agricutlture by a few years, but it also might be beneficial for Germany's economy--patent royalties and all. Wonder if that continues to butterfly the reasons for German support for another war...

Here are some trends that were supposed to have never changed since 1900:

* The Democratic Party will remain controlled by the "Southern Dixiecrat" faction of the United States...

* Americans will continue to emigrate into Mexico in large numbers, especially from the states Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico...

* The United States will remain a regional isolationist power that will only intervene in areas of its own interests...

* A majority of Americans (c.80%) will continue to live on the farms and small towns of rural communities....

* China remains a backward and divided nation controlled by a series of corrupt monarchs, warlords, and political radicals with little value...

* The Middle East remains a minor and impoverished area, controlled by a few minor tribes and controlled by foreign powers...

By 1900 almost half of the US lived in cities and most people would have thought the migration to cities would continue. Indeed the decline of the Rust Belt cities would be implausible to them.

Wait, whoa? Did an America to Mexico movement happen?

Wait, whoa? Did an America to Mexico movement happen?
In the period between 1865-1920, many Americans emigrated to Mexico for several reasons. First was the transport of cattle which was a major trade along the northern border of Mexico. Second, as seen in There Will Be Blood, oil exploration and drilling was a major development to the region, which up until 1929, helped start many start-up fortunes. Third, you had lower living costs in Mexico, which allowed many Americans an incentive to retire in the northernmost areas....
