Most likely name for a U.S. third party?

Hmm... if Reconstruction had taken a different turn, "Reconstructionists" could be a good, if wordy third party name.

It'd have to be a single snappy one word thing, like Reform or Liberal or Centre, and preferably one where the abbreviation is not easily confused with the other two. It would also help if it had its own colour, one not normally used on US election maps (like green or yellow) to help define a brands.

EDIT: Didn't realise this was a pre-1900 thread. In that case what I said is less applicable.
 
No what you're saying makes sense. Most of the posts in this thread miss the point- I'm looking for a name as general and universal and bland as the two major parties of the U.S.

Well the good thing about Democratic and Republican is, as you say, they are both basically meaningless affirmations of the US political system which makes them hard to criticise. So from that point of view you might see a Constitution(al)(ist) Party, a Congress Party, a National Party or something of that type.
