Most likely name for a U.S. third party?

The National Union Party; the name of the Republicans/War Democrats during the 1864 election to appeal to patriotic sentiments.
Fixed that for ya ;)

I've always thought that "National Union" would make a great name for an American fascist party for the very reasons you cited.

Continental Party

Union Party

Bull Moose Party :D

Progressive Party

Liberal Party

Populist Party

Reform Party

Federalist Party

Democratic-Republican Party, just to be confusing.

In the beginning (or not really, but whatever) there were Democrats and Republicans, then Reagan said "Let there be Christ in politics" and the Republicans nixed the greatest potential for a powerful 3rd party in the USA in the modern day.

Figure a way to undo all that, and you could have a wealthy/big-business/right wing Republican, a low-class/big-government/left wing Democrat, and then you're crazy ass sort of democratic Raving Mad Christians entrenched in the South and Midwest. Maybe the Populists sort of thinking with God as backup?

Dunno what it'd be called though. Good-For-Nothings if you ask me...

The Christian Democratic Party, like all the other Christian Democrat parties that exist elsewhere?

There could be an American Socialist Party, if the pod was distant enough to change classical american political ideas, and maybe anti-authoritarian, native form of socialism (NOT communism) would be trrendy cool popular.

Given the stuff that happened early in the 20th century I'd think the most likely thing would be a party broadly similar to the European social democrats or the Canadian NDP (though nowadays probably looking more like the Canadian Liberals in terms of policy) and calling itself the Socialists one way or another (Socialist Party of American would be my guess).

It requires the term to be less of an epithet, but the very existence of a credible party calling itself that would help to abate the damage that's been done to the term, so really trick is, IMO to get a third party to form at all. On that note, what about a real southern based party coming out of the reconstruction era? If organized in a way that didn't excessively frighten the north there would seem to be a real opportunity for a true regional party that is going to be well establsihed enough to stumble along one way or another whenever anti northern sentiment dies down (McClellan winning the presidency might do the trick, just need to associate the Democrats with the war almost as much as the Republicans IMO; and him winning wouldn't seem a huge stretch if the party could lose the openly anti war stuff).

New Party
Presidential party
Socialist party
Future party
Labour party
Liberty party
Freedom Party
People's party
Confederate party :)

Hopeless Party
Forlorn Hope Party
Invisible Party
(considering the chances of a third party in the USA...)

This would require some Constitutional changes because currently the way our political system is set up makes the success of a third party very low.
